Muruch was created in 2001 as a companion to a personal website that had been used to share mp3s and music recommendations with friends since 1999.

The blog is written by the former moderator of Audiogasms, one of the first major music communities on Livejournal.com and predecessor to several spinoff communities, including Audiography and Balladeers.

When Audiogasms and the old Muruch website were shut down in early 2004, Muruch was transformed into a proper music blog.

The music posted on the blog has been from an eclectic mix of genres, with the primary focus on reviews of albums and concerts by artists that haven't quite cracked the mainstream music scene.
